
A Spanish Red Cross spokesman says two migrants died trying to reach Spain from northwest Africa in a wooden boat that was carrying 58 people in all.
The spokesman says the boat arrived at Los Cristianos port on the Canary Island of Tenerife around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. He says the migrants are believed to be from sub-Saharan countries.
In aid worker said all the boat's occupants were men. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the local Red Cross rules. Spanish National Radio said the authorities dock workers arrived by boat.
Thousands of Africans trying to reach Europe every year sailing in the small fishing vessels from Africa to the Spanish Canary Islands, a dangerous path that could take weeks.
