
Julie gets top-10 finish
It has taken Seychellois Laser sailor Allan Julie just two competitions this year to get a top-10 finish and it came in the Barcelona Olympic Sailing Week 2008 competition raced from March 6 to 11 at the Forum Port Marina.
A former five-time Sportsman of the Year, Julie received 53 points in 11 races to be ranked sixth out 39 participants. His best finish was a third place and that came in race number four. He also had four fourth-place finishes, two fifth places, a two sixth places and a seventh place. His worst result came in race number two where he finished 16th.
After gaining 17 places on the latest International Sailing Federation (ISAF) ranking issued on March 5 to shoot to 58th position worldwide, Julie is anticipated to draw near the ranking in the near future as he is to rival in the Eurolymp at the Lake Garda in Italy (from March 26 to 29) and the Semaine Olympique Francaise in Hyeres, France (from April 18 to 25).
Julie, whose best ever ranking – 15th place – came in late 2004, is expected back home on April 27.
It is worth noting that Julie finished 41st out of 54 participants in the gold fleet of the World Laser sailing Championship held in
Ranked 10th worldwide, Spanish Javier Hernandez was the Barcelona Olympic Sailing Week 2008 competition winner with 19 points after collecting five first places in 11 races.
Italian Bottoli Giacomo (59th worldwide) finished second with 39 points, while Estonian Deniss Karpak (5th worldwide) settled for third place with 40 points.
