Goodbye to the monument to Primo de Rivera


The Barcelona City Council intends to withdraw this year the monument dedicated to Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, located between the avenue and Josep Tarradellas de Sarria.

The project to remove this facility is now ready and only needed the approval of the commission that regulates the sculptural heritage of the city, according to the government team Eixample district in the past plenary.

This monument, consisting of a monolith and a frieze of floats, was erected in 1964 in honor of Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera although references Franco retreated long ago.

Late last year the Cortes Generales adopted the so-called Law of Historical Memory which provides, among other things, that "government, in the exercise of their powers, they take appropriate measures for the withdrawal of shields, pins, plates and other objects or mentions commemorative exaltation, personal or collective, the military uprising, the Civil War and the suppression of the Dictatorship ". Even then, the City expressed willingness to withdraw the sculptural Primo de Rivera during this mandate, which has not been done after waiting many months.
