While more than 50000 officials from the industry-wide mobile phone manufacturers, telecommunications companies and high-tech companies out of the game on their next move of the world's largest communications conference, the winners will be decided ultimately by the consumer.

Beach said the hot topic at this year's conference will be for mobile broadband services, which already is, in countries such as Sweden, Finland and Austria. The technology has the advantages of providing high-speed Internet in areas where there is no existing cable networks, where the network or the quality is poor, but Beach said the success is reflected in the pricing.

As the Internet moves to the phone, some of the major players will be companies such as Yahoo Inc., Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. They are seeking expansion in the 3 billion mobile phones worldwide - about three times as many computers.
Industry observers have their eyes on Barcelona to see if Google goes to a parade with his Android operating system designed specifically for the work on "smart" phones, handheld devices that integrate the functions of personal digital assistants with mobile phones.
